All Dothan residents will have their garbage picked up once a week by an automated garbage service. The new service was implemented in record time.
Monday, the last of seven garbage routes in Dothan were implemented to complete the automated garbage service throughout the city.
The new trucks rolled out in December and Dothan got all seven routes on line in eight months without major problems.
Although the upfront equipment costs of trucks and cans were heavy, the biggest plus of the new service will be savings in the personnel department. It will also prevent injuries and save money in worker's comp cases.
Before service implementation, residents worried the cans wouldn't be big enough to accommodate all their trash. However, out of 22,000 cans, the city has only had to supplement 275 homes with extra cans.
In addition, the city of Dothan hasn't lain off any workers in the process.
Dothan residents can expect garbage pick up once a week by the automated trucks and the city is hoping to see big savings from the service.
