State Department of Public Health officials report that three horses in Alabama were recently diagnosed with West Nile virus.

However, health experts say the virus' return is not a signal that a widespread outbreak will occur as in recent years. So far, the number of cases has declined in many Southeastern states this year.

In Alabama a horse was infected with West Nile in Autauga County. In Coffee County, two horses have confirmed cases of the virus.
