No Cuts for Panama City Beach, Other Towns Without Property Tax

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The mayor of Panama City Beach sympathizes with other local government officials across Florida who are grappling with property tax cuts ordered by the Legislature, but he won't be joining them.

This booming resort city of 10-thousand people in the Florida Panhandle is the largest of at least 26 Florida cities and towns without a municipal property tax.

Only five others have more than one-thousand residents.

The municipalities have different ways to pay for their upkeep. Panama City Beach has a small tax on businesses' gross receipts.

Some depend on utility taxes or other levies.
