Members of “Yes We Can! Dothan” continue to come up with creative ways to improve the school system.

The recent "Adopt-A-school" and "Adopt A Teacher" programs are growing, and teachers say so far, so good.

"I wish that more people would come and volunteer because some people may have a negative perception in our schools, teachers are working hard, students are working hard and if people came in here to see that they would probably have a better perception of our schools" said Leslie Gilley, a 3rd Grade Teacher at Hidden Lake Elementary.

Larry and Nadine Beauchamp have each been donating 10 hours a week to Leslie Gilley, helping her with various school projects.

"I am assembling what they call conduct folders. They contain announcement pages, calendars; they are starting their fun drive. I have the package here with graded pages inside, the student brings it home and then back to the teacher" said Larry Beauchamp.

Taking 20 hours off Gilley's schedule gives her more time to do other things like help her own kids with their homework.

"I think family time is what we are missing in this day and time and if what we are doing here helps her in that area" said Nadine Beauchamp.

The program continues to gain popularity- and those individuals and businesses who have participated will be recognized in an adoption ceremony.

"We will give out certificates to the adopters and this is our way of saying thank you very much and we are glad to have you as a partner with us" said Lavonda Gosselin, Director of the Adopt A School Program.

Tuesday, ceremonies will be held at Faine Elementary, Carver Middle School and at Hidden Lake.
