Dothan's proposed Interstate-10 connector project could be in line for more federal funding.
A senate transportation sub-committee has approved 4-and-a-quarter million dollars for the project.
It would link Dothan and the Wiregrass area to Tnterstate-10 in the Florida Panhandle.
Supporters of the connector say the 4-lane super-highway would boost the southeast Alabama economy.
Florida officials say the spur could become a vital evacuation route if hurricanes threaten the Panhandle.
The funding bill goes to the senate appropriations committee for further consideration.
