Kiwanis’ Family 4th Celebration Success

The Kiwanis Club's first annual Red, White, and Boom Family 4th celebration was a success.

Thousands came out in groves, as event organizers say the crowds doubled their expectations.

The numbers aren't in yet, but preliminary ticket counts show between 10 to 12-thousand people attended Thursday's celebration.

Those numbers however, don't include kids because they got in free.

“We felt like the event would be good because it's needed. Dothan hasn't has an event like this on the 4th of July and people are looking for things to do and it gave them a place to go,” said organization Chairman Robyn Reiner

Kiwanis members say they'll definitely hold the 4th of July celebration next year.

This event was great and I liked it better than Ft Rucker. The only complaint was the parkinglot situation on the way out. Where were the Dothan police to assist the cars onto the highway? There were several inside the gate watching the fireworks--- they could also see the thousands of cars inthe lot and knew they were fixin' to leave. Why didn't they radio to the station for some traffic cops and assistance?
