Coffee County Senior Center Problems

Last fall, state and local officials broke ground for a multi-million dollar convention and senior center on the Enterprise-Ozark Community College campus.

But plans to build at that location have been scrubbed.

Engineers say the 10-acre strip of land is simply not big enough and doesn't allow room for future expansion.

In addition, it would cost more than a million dollars to prepare the site for construction.

City Consultant Walter Lunsford said, "My recommendation due to all the factors I mentioned, and the budget constraints we're under it would be impossible to construct it on that site."

The city council has chosen an alternate site adjacent to the Enterprise Recreation Center on Highway 167 North.

The convention and senior center will cost 4.5 million dollars.
