Troopers Report Six Fatalities, Heavy Presence Planned for July 4th

Alabama state troopers say six people died in separate traffic accidents over the weekend.

Fatalities were reported in Marion, DeKalb, Cullman and Clay counties. Separate accidents in Shelby County claimed two lives.

Meantime, Public Safety Director, Colonel J- Christopher Murphy, said additional troopers will be on duty over the 30- hour Independence Day travel period. He said troopers will concentrate their patrols on interstates and other popular beach and vacation routes.

The department estimates that seven people will die in traffic crashes from 6 pm Tuesday to midnight Wednesday, July 4th. Last year, there were 22 fatalities during an extended 102-hour July 4th holiday period.
