Bellwood Fugitive Captured

A Geneva County fugitive has been arrested near Andalusia.

Phenico "Phenix" Hornsby was the object of an intense manhunt that began last Thursday morning in Bellwood.

At the time, he was accused of savagely attacking a woman with a pipe and burning her house to the ground.

But then Friday, during the search for Hornsby, the body of another woman was found in a wooded area.

Authorities say that 50-year-old Jewell Bingham knew Hornsby.

Monday morning, Hornsby was reportedly spotted riding a 4-wheeler in Covington County.

Law enforcement officers chased him down near Andalusia.

Investigators are expected to transport Hornsby to the Geneva County Jail later.

He faces murder and attempted murder charges.

News 4 is on the scene and we will have more details as information becomes available.

TO all the officers my family Thanks You!! Your persistence paid off. The time of the capture could not have come at a better time. It was only minutes after we laid my mother to rest. She is better now. We have been blessed with so many friends and family, all the prayers have made a difference. We will now get the answers that our family needs to complete her tragic death. I hope that she will not be rembered for the way she died but for who she was. Caring, loving, compasionate, friendly, her smile and her laughter. She was there for anyone and everyone that ever needed her. May God Bless you all and thank you again to all that were involved. Brandi Bingham- Jewel E. Bingham's daughter

I'm glad Phenice Hornsby was captured with no one else getting hurt. I pray God has mercy on his soul, if what he is accused of is true. I can't speculate on what happened to Jewel I wasn't there. My prayers and thoughts go out to your family. May Jewel Rest In Peace. Now at least the Geneva County Community can rest. Now that Mr. Hornsby is behind bars where he belongs. To the public just remember JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL!!! Let the LAW handled it from now own. They are doing a pretty good job at it.

As I stood and watched Jewel be put to rest next to my mother this morning, I prayed that this man would be caught as soon as possible. And the good Lord above answered all of our prayers. To have to watch my step father have to bury his sister next to his wife was one of the hardest things to do in my life but with knowing that Hornsby has been caught, we as a family and a community will be able to sleep a little better tonight.

I'm glad they caught that Hornsby fella. I hate what he did to Jewel. I only knew her just a little but what I knew of her she was a real sweet heart. My heart goes out to her family, and anyone who knew her. And I thank God to all that had something to do with this capture. As for the women that was beaten I do not know her at all, and my heart goes out to her and her family. Please some one tell me what kinds of things they need, and the size of cloths they wear. I'm sure I can find some things for them before I drop off to the mission. Email me please
