Geneva County Manhunt Continues

A canine search team found the body of a white female as they looked for Phenico "Phenix" Hornsby.

Police say Hornsby is very elusive; he has been seen several times by area residents Friday.

In one case, a homeowner fired a shot at him but missed.

Hornsby broke into a home and reportedly ate several cans of food and took some clothing, but no one was hurt.

Thursday, he is accused of savagely attacking a woman with a pipe and then setting her home on fire.

She was able to escape with severe lacerations.

A search team found the unidentified body.

Authorities believe they know her identity and that she has been acquainted with Hornsby.

An investigative unit with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation was brought in to process the murder scene.

Sheriff Greg Ward went on to remind folks to make sure they don't leave their keys inside their vehicles. Also, to make sure they have their windows and doors well secure.

Besides Thursday’s attempted murder, Hornsby will now face murder charges.

If you see Hornsby, don't try to apprehend him yourself, but call police immediately.

me and my wife were class mates with him. He had a bad disposition as a kid but he was too small to back it up. He was the kid that was at every fight runing his mouth egging it on. This person now is different from the little kid from Coffe Springs.

Phenis Hornsby has been in trouble with the law for many many years now and nothing is ever done about him. The way I see it this is just another notch in his belt of terror. If they werent scared of him or his friends they would have already caught him. I have a feeling if he comes to Coffee Springs he may need an ambulance or even better a hurse to leave in.

I just heard that the police caught Hornsby. Apparently he had stolen a four wheeler and was being chased by police and ran into a tree. Does anyone know for a fact that this is true? If so, then where and when?

The Law enforcers are trying to catch this man because he is a registered sex offender and I have known this man for many years. He has been a problem since he was in high school. He was a theif then. It is a shame that he has gotten worse but he has. For the safety of others especially women, I hope the law catches and prosecutes him to the fullest extent of the law. This community needs to be rid of him.

Phenix has always been a menus to the area. Yes he knows how to life in the woods with no electricity but I have not seen any activity in my neighborhood looking for him. There are people that are going to say they saw him when actually they did not so i know they cant just run on everything the hear. Has all of the area druggies been checked out he definately is associated with all of them in one way or another. As far as the woman that was found dead, it is probably his girl friend that he ran up and down the streets of Bellwood with at all hours of the night.
