What have they done with it or why did they do it?

These are questions church members are asking after copper was stolen from north Highland Baptist Church in Dothan this weekend. It’s supposed to be a place of worship.

But whoever stole copper from the air conditioning unit of north Highland Baptist Church in Dothan didn't seem to care.

"There's no reason for this. Goodness, I mean, it's a church. And, to get so little out of it," says Church Member Daniel Reynolds.

Reynolds says he does whatever needs to be done around the church.

When Sunday morning he noticed something a little off when he found rubber tubes lying on the ground.

A closer look revealed someone had cut the tubing, and then took the copper metal out of it.

"I didn't realize copper was that valuable," Reynolds said.

Dothan Police say North Highland was the second church hit over the weekend.

The other was First Holiness Church on Webb Road. Who the crooks could be? They don't know

This has become such a widespread problem a task force is being formed to stop copper and metal thefts.

Crooks take the precious commodity to recycling places and trade it in for big bucks.

Within the past two months, the Dothan Police have arrested 10 people who were involved in multiple cases.

A Crime Stoppers reward of up to $1000 dollars is being offered to anyone with information that will lead to the arrest in this case.
