Geneva’s Smoking Ban Seen as Unfair

A Geneva businessman believes that city's new smoke ordinance may put him out-of-work.

Marcus Towles has operated his tattoo shop in downtown Geneva for several years.

Towles says most of his customers smoke, and he has never allowed them to light-up inside the business.

But he disagrees with a portion of the law which prohibits smoking from within 25-feet outside a business.

He believes that goes a bit too far, and may cause some folks to go elsewhere.

"It's always been a non-smoking establishment because of the health aspects of smoking inside. But, my customers could smoke outside and we've never had a problem," said Towles.

Geneva's new smoking ordinance is scheduled to go into effect on July fourth.

I am trying to quit smoking. (hope I make it) It has hurt me so bad and for me it is just time to stop. BUT I will always standup for the ones that want thier right to smoke. You are right Ronald they are slowley but sureley taking all our right from us. I think as a person over 21 I should be able to smoke and not wear a seatbelt if I want. It is my life in my hands not anyones else. I'm not smoking any more But I am with you that you should have the right to if you want,

Not sure where your getting your info about second hand smoke is harmless. Its incorrect. I think smoking should be illegal. Look at the cost to taxpayers for longterm care for those who are under insured or are on medicare. Look at the tax dollars that could be saved in medical expenses for those smokers who have end stage COPD. Just ask my mother who has it now if she had the knowledge and facts about smoking would she do it again? I feel that the smokers are violating the rights of nonsmokers when they light up around them. Should be a crime.

you know if the National Health org. would look at the study that the World Health Org. done they would see that second hand smoke does Not hurt anyone, we have gotten to the point that we believe everything they tell us. this is just another way for the government to take our rights away one at a time and people are to dumb to see this. It will keep going on until there is a one world government, just think about it, we just keep losing our rights one at a time. But we just have to live with it, thats just the way it is.

i think it is crazy to try and tell adults when and where thay can smoke. I also think that it should be considered discrimination against smokers.
