Dothan City Schools Safety

The Dothan Police Department just might see an increase in technology, specifically in its school safety division.

The police department put in a request to the commission this morning to apply for a federal grant under the "Secure Our Schools" program.

The grant provides half the funding for improvement in school safety and the money would go towards lap top computers for school resource officers.

“It puts additional resources at the fingertips of the, resource officers they'll have access to records checks on the individuals they may come into contact with, additionally they can do the reports on the lap tops electronically and send that info back to the police department so there's a quicker turnaround,” said Chief John Powell

The portion the city would pay to provide the officers lap tops would be around $60,000.

    I dont see why they just dont invest in metal detectors for the schools. Secure it down just like an airport. They have that type of TECHNOLOGY in bigger cities. And what kind of laptops are they getting my Dell only cost me around $800.00.
