16-Year-Old Shot Dead in Late Night Incident

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A 16-year-old Huntsville girl died from a gunshot after she got involved in a fight with other teenagers on a residential street.

Wendell Johnson, a police spokesman, said Jamie Collier was shot dead by a 14-year-old boy. He said it happened last night around 11 p-m on Mount Vernon Road.

Johnson said the boy surrendered to officers about two hours later and was charged with Collier's murder.

He's being held at a juvenile detention facility. Police declined to release the boy's name because of his age.

Its unclear what led to the deadly confrontation.

All I want to know is what are a 14 year old and a 16 year old doing out at that time of night? Where are the pearents of these kids? How did a 14 year old have posession of a gun? I feel that the parents should be questioned and held accountable as well for this tragic event!

Where were the parents? Curfew? Gun locked safety cabinet? This should be on the front page of the paper as an eye opener! I hold the parent's responsible. All of the parent's.
