A plane crash near the Florida coast claimed the life of a Dothan businessman Thursday morning.
The pilot, Dan Smith, was the only person on board.
Smith was the long-time owner of Dothan Motor Company.
Officials say the plane went down in the Highland view canal near Port Saint Joe around 9 am.
Witnesses told authorities the pilot was flying low and may have been waving at someone on the ground when the air-craft clipped a power line and crashed into the water.
At last report, funeral arrangements had not been finalized and will be announced later.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
