Textile Career Fair

Agencies from all over the Wiregrass convened in Abbeville to begin the planning process for a career fair aiming to secure new jobs for WestPoint employees.

Henry County Family Services, the Dothan Chamber of Commerce and the Saliba Services center and many other organizations are taking part in the venture.

They're hoping to hold a job fair in early July for the textile workers who will be jobless by the end of the summer.

Of those employees a third of them have worked at WestPoint for over 25 years.

The committee wants them to know there is life after a plant closing.

Mayor Rhett Taylor of Abbeville says they are still searching for a business to fill the empty plant and its 15 million dollar payroll.
