Troy University has taken action to make sure its former students in the military know they are supported. Now, the Troy for Troops program is expanding even more.
The Support our Troops program at Troy University recently changed its name to Troy for Troops. Since that change the university has been very active paying the way for athletics tickets and shipping care packages
Captain Jim Holder with the Troy University ROTC said, "Students as well as service men and women that come to us through the internet or by referral we contact their family members and just try to act like an outreach program for the community, as a way of saying thank you for risking their lives for us."
The SGA recently became involved and designed a t-shirt available for purchase. When a shirt is bought , it pays for another shirt to be shipped overseas to a soldier.
Barbara Patterson, the director of Student Involvement said, "We’re currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. With the profits of selling the t-shirts to the faculty staff and students we can send these soldiers a t-shirt for free."
This fall, the athletics department will provide free entrance to the Louisiana Lafayette Football Game for any active member of the Armed Forces and what better way to support troops, than free football.
For anyone that would like to contribute to the program there is a form at www.troy.edu.
