Sheriff's Department Commander Bill Land said deputies cornered robbery suspect Edward Powell Monday afternoon.
Land said Powell jumped in a car and tried to get away, but deputies managed to box him in and took him into custody.
Powell's bond has been set at $100,000.
He's accused of beating a hitchhiker and stealing the man's wallet.
