Motorcycle, Vehicle Collide On Highway 84

A stretch of Highway 84 between Opp and Andalusia has proven to be particularly deadly over recent years.

Last Friday, Tom Schoggins of Andalusia was the latest victim.

The 52-year-old Andalusia man died after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle near the regional airport in Sanford.

Local officials say that particular stretch of pavement has claimed several lives in separate accidents.

With the airport and a nearby computer call center located, one resident tells News 4, there's always heavy traffic in the area.

A request is expected to be made to the state department of transportation for a traffic study to make the roadway safer.

Any highway is deadly. It is the people on the roads driving reckless that makes every highway deadly. I have seen more accidents on 431 North than i have ever seen in my life time. almost everyone one of them was unnesessary. They could have been prevented. People are living in the fast lane and they can't wait to get to heaven or hell. I see a lot of people talking on cell phones, eating, doing everything but driving. Please look out for you and the other guy. I see a lot innocent people die that was not even there fault. Yes i agree everyone should have to take a driving test after a certain age or if they have been stopped and ticketed for driving while intoxicated.

Highway 84 is not a deadly highway, it is the people who are irresponsible drivers and do not care about human life. They go 20 miles an hour to get to work and 80 miles an hour to get home. Everyone needs to be aware of the people on the road. No one cares about human life any more. They just say "it is sad". They need to do something about and drive responsible and stay off cell phones. Also, everyone should have to retake a driving test every four years.

What I feel should be done is , Not a traffic safety study on that road, But revamp the whole driving situation all togther. Since I have resided in the wiregrass area I have been appalled by the ignorance of drivers abilities not to use turn signals when doing lane changes or turning. Plus I have been a victim of people racing to get around you when a lane comes to an end just to turn left half mile ahead. Or even stop in middle of a driving lane to cross traffic when they have a turn lane to turn from but do not use it. Plus I guess in the area or state matter of fact anywhere but seems to be more so here its basically pick your own speed and drive no matter what posted speeds are. So yea revamp peoples driving skills not the roads.
