UNDATED (AP) - A spokesman for the Bay County, Florida, Sheriff's Office says a deputy shot and killed a 41-year-old Louisiana man Saturday afternoon after a lengthy car chase and manhunt in the Florida Panhandle.
Christopher Michael Simpson of Louisiana was shot to death after he fired several shots at a deputy.
Authorities say Simpson and a woman had been on a week-long burglary and car theft spree that started in Livingston Parish.
Twenty-eight-year-old Patrina Ann Theriot was arrested and booked into the Bay County Jail. The chase started in south Walton County when deputies tried to pull over the couple in a stolen car.
Officials say the car crashed and Simpson and Theriot ran into the woods where they broke into a nearby home and stole another car.
Deputies say the couple stole a shotgun from a car there before stealing a third car that they eventually crashed. That's when officials say Simpson got out the car and ran, later firing shots at a sheriff's deputy.
The deputy returned fire. Simpson was shot three times in the chest. He died on his way to the hospital. Theriot is being held without bond at the Bay County Jail
