PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A World War Two practice bomb forced the evacuation of a Pensacola Beach condo.
Stacy Cook found it along the beach yesterday and decided to keep it. But when she sent a picture to her boyfriend, he told her that it looked like a bomb and to call authorities.
Officials with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Fire Rescue and the State Fire Marshal's Office evacuated the 75 or so residents in the building.
The device was safely removed from Cook's condo and residents were allowed to go back inside.
Bomb technician Michael White says the biggest danger was starting a fire or residents getting burned.
Cook says after all this, she won't even pick up a soda can from the beach.
