Local Soldier Killed in Iraq

A soldier from Geneva County has been killed in Iraq.

Specialist Joseph Adam Gilmore was born and raised in Hartford.

He was killed earlier this month along with five other soldiers when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle.

The 26 year old Gilmore leaves behind a wife and two children, ages 5 and 3.

A memorial service for the fallen soldier is scheduled for 2:00 Saturday afternoon at Hartford Baptist Church.

I would like to have seen the live coverage at his(Joseph's memorial. My daughter was his sister-in-law. I knew Joe very well.It saddens me greatly to know we've lost another wonderful young man because of A War that should have already been over.Joe will be greatly missed. He was loved by so many people. Thank you for letting me respond.

I would like to thank Rayne for her kindness at my son's Memorial Service today, she was very patient and understanding with me! It's reporters like her that will go far in reporting the news with a heart. Keep up the good work.

I just want to say how sorry I am for your terrible loss. I graduated with Joe and I am also a soldier. You are in my prayers and know that you now have a wonderful angel watching over you. SSgt Amanda Reynolds Foy

May he rest in peace and may the community reach out to his family as they will surely need their faith and the support of the community during these times and the future ahead.
