Local National Guards Begin Deployment to Iraq

Nearly 200-local military men and women are headed for the war in Iraq.

The 1203rd Alabama National Guard Engineering Battalion, stationed in Dothan, is mobilizing in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The battalion will leave Dothan June 10 and will first stop at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, for training.

Then they are headed overseas with additional 500-soldiers in late summer.

"We just want to be sure that we let the employers, the community and families know that we appreciate their support. They have to make as many sacrifices--if not more so--than we do as soldiers," said Lieutenant Steve Ingram.

Lieutenant Ingram says it's an honor for them to serve the country.
