Oil Steady, Gas Prices Ease Slightly

VIENNA, Austria (AP) - Oil prices are little changed today, and gas prices have been easing a bit.

Prices have eased since last Friday.

Light, sweet crude for July delivery was at 64 dollars, 59 cents a barrel in European electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That is up four cents from Monday.

AAA says the national average for unleaded regular gasoline is three dollars, 20 cents a gallon. It has declined about two and a-half cents a gallon in recent days.

In Alabama - the statewide average for regular is 3.05 a gallon. Mid grade fuels are 3.26; and the price for premium is three dollars, 35 cents a gallon.

If I remember it correctly, when Katrina came through the per barrel prices jumped to $65 plus (due to refineries closed down and there being shortages due to Gulf rigs being shut down) yet the pump prices maxed out under $3.00 per gallon. I also remember that after that period the Oil Companies reported record setting profits. I guess they do not want to disappoint their shareholders by not exceeding previous record profits.
