Two Men Drown in Gulf Waters off Alabama Beach

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - Two men drowned in the Gulf of Mexico
over the Memorial Day weekend -- one from Tennessee on Saturday and another from north Alabama Sunday.

Baldwin County coroner Jim Small said 43-year-old Eric K- Hardison of Henderson, Tennessee was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday in Gulf Shores.

Sunday's drowning victim is identified as 31-year-old LeShaamon Shorrell Garth of Hartselle.

Police said Garth drowned about 12:48 p.m. in the Gulf before he could be rescued. Lifeguards recovered his body a short distance from shore.

Orange Beach Fire/Rescue responded to two separate distressed swimmers yesterday, in one case using a rescue boat to pull a swimmer from the water three-quarters of a mile out in the Gulf.
