Florida Department of Children

The former head of Oklahoma's Social Services Department has been named Secretary of Florida's embattled child welfare agency.

Gov. Jeb Bush named Jerry Regier to head the State Department of Children and Families. Regier served as the Oklahoma Cabinet Secretary for Social Services for five years.

He replaces Kathleen Kearney whose Tuesday resignation becomes effective Sept. 3.

DCF has been under fire for losing track of foster children, leaving children in abusive situations and its caseworkers' falsification of reports.
