DeVane Denied Probation

Ashford women who plead guilty to vehicular homicide for killing a Dothan city worker in February of last year was denied probation Friday.

Authorities say a car driven by 43-year-old Tammy Melinda DeVane crashed into a traffic engineering truck that had stopped to perform maintenance on a roadside sign.

DeVane was originally charged with manslaughter in the death of 57-year-old Johnny White.

Authorities say while DeVane was out on bond, she was arrested in June 2006 for driving under the influence.

Friday DeVane took the stand apologizing for her actions and asking for probation.

Judge Larry Anderson denied the motion and DeVane heads to the state penitentiary for five years.

I agree with a lot of the statements that Lora said, And pray that the white family can one day be freed from bondage of unforgiveness. I also feel for the Family of Ms Devane and Ms Devane her self. I Believe she was sentenced because of her 2006 DUI conviction and that alone. I further believe that Mr Whites Death was nothing more than a TRAGIC ACCIDENT. Ms.Devane was tested for alcohol, and any other illegal drugs the day of the accident and none were found in her system. I also remember looking at the video of the accident scene on line and wondering why was that truck parked in the road? and on a double yellow line at that? Now I am not blaming Mr White in any way. or trying to belittle the pain and grief his family endures still. but I think some one should look at Policy, procedure and state Law, regarding work that requires the trucks to be parked in the roadway, and where was the flagman? was there one? I for on would like to see this investigated from a safety regulations standpoing. I pray Gods grace and mercy to all involved.

While I agree that there are too many drivers on the road using cell phones and driving under the influence, I differ in the previous post about them being "jerks". There are some people in this world who truly make a mistake and are remorseful for their actions. I believe that justice is served and that we as a community need to help with the rehabilitation of these people that truly make a mistake. Too many times we stereotype (myself included) these people and place them in a "bad person" category. I am going to have a different view from now on. I truly have compassion on the White family. It is a tragedy, but maybe...just maybe one day they can forgive Ms DeVane completely and be set free from this bondage of unforgiveness.

Larry Anderson did the right thing. Many more reckless drivers in the Wiregrass should be locked up. Too many crazy and stupid drivers on our roads. Too many jerks using cell phones while driving in our area also. What did these jerks do before we had cell phones?
