Washington County Jail Demolition

The Washington County commission approved demolition of the old county jail.

Built in the 1920's, the two-story structure has been vacant for 7-years and has deteriorated to the point it is no longer possible to restore it.

Officials with the local historical society agreed the structure is beyond repair.

A date for the demolition has not been set but plans are to place a marker on the site, which is located behind the courthouse in Chipley.
