Murphy will be Tried as Adult

The man accused of shooting up a local medical clinic and holding police at bay for hours will be tried as an adult.

On February 5th, 19 year old Jason Andrew Murphy walked into Primecare on Westgate Parkway, reportedly opened fire with a rifle, and held authorities at-bay for almost 3-hours.

Monday Judge Lawson Little denied youthful offender status for Murphy who will stand trial as an adult.

Murphy could receive 20 years to life in prison for each charge instead of the maximum 3 years as a juvenile.

Murphy faces 8 charges, 5 attempted murder, one terrorist threat, one burglary, and a criminal mischief charge.

Defense Attorney Matt Lamere said, “I wasn't surprised and in things like this we present their character, their education, and I believe that should of gone in his favor.

After youthful offender was denied, Murphy pled not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
