DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A 76-year-old Dale County man was sentenced
to prison for sexual abuse dating back twenty years ago, while three victims watched in the courtroom.

A Dale County judge sentenced Donald Boyd to six years in a state prison Thursday and said he will recommend Boyd serve in a prison geriatric unit. Boyd had pleaded guilty to sexual abuse.

Three victims watched as the sentence was handed down, including sisters Amy Turner and Jana Turner, now adults, and a 13-year-old girl.

Testimony revealed Boyd molested Amy Turner as far back as 20 years ago.

The youngest victim prompted the investigation when she reported the abuse last year. The Turner sisters then came forward also.

Boyd's attorney had asked the judge for treatment instead of prison time for his client.

I WANT TO SET THE RECORD CLEAR AS TO WHAT KIND OF MAN HE IS BEYOND THE COURTROOM. I DON'T CONDOLE HIS ACTIONS, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS MAN IS A WONDERFUL FATHER AND GRANDFATHER. HE WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HIS FAMILY. HE FEED AND SHELTERED THIS KIDS WHEN NO ONE ELSE COULD. THE OLDER ADULTS THAT SPOKE ON BEHAVE OF THE VICTIMS, WERE THE VERY ONES WHO WERE NOT THERE FOR THE CHILDREN. i LOVE THIS MAN AND ALWAYS WILL.

I just want to say thank you very much for making his case public because if my little cousin did not come forward it would have not been stopped I just want to say thank you very much and the Dale County DA office was very very nice and supportive through out this entire ordeal. I dont think i could have done it without the support of assistant DA Kathy

I agree with Donald Boyd's attorney he should recieve treatment, while he serves every day of his sentence. Maybe if the treatment doesn't help he will die of old age before he get's out..
