Ala. Crews Dispatched to Help Fight Wildfires in Georgia

Two firefighting crews from the Alabama Forestry Commission have been sent to southeast Georgia to help fight raging wildfires that have scorched thousands of acres.

Commission spokeswoman Coleen Vansant said the four experienced
firefighters took two of the largest bulldozers in the state's forestry fleet for a 14-day assignment near Waycross, Georgia.

Vansant said the Alabama crew will work with firefighters from Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.

The largest blaze is the Sweet Road Fire in Ware County, Georgia. This fire has forced the evacuations of hundreds of homes and burned more than 56-thousand acres (67 square miles).
