Elderly Couple Killed in Accident

An elderly couple was killed and another person was injured after a near-head-on collision in the Florida Panhandle.

The accident happened about 2:30 Wednesday morning near the intersection of Highway 98 and Sandestin Boulevard.

The Florida Highway patrol says an SUV crossed the center line and slammed into a van.

The driver of the van, 72 year old Roberta Mahaffey of Santa Rosa Beach, was killed.

Her 75 year old husband died in a Pensacola hospital.

19-year-old Nicholas Chesser of Destin was driving the SUV. He was seriously injured.

Charges are pending as the accident remains under investigation.
