State Prison Commissioner Richard Allen stopped in Dothan and says there are possible solutions to the jail overcrowding issue.
Richard spoke to members of the Rotary Club and says jail overcrowding is at an all-time high.
He says it's the largest problem the state faces right now with prison capacity at more than 200 percent.
But, he says these challenges can be overcome.
“If D.A’s [District Attorney] and Judges implement guidelines passed by the state legislature, that'll help. If the community not only establish but fully operates community corrections programs that’ll help. So, there are things in place that'll put the numbers down somewhat,” said Allen.
Allen also believes the state should build prisons strictly for women prisoners.
