PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - The Navy's Blue Angels have returned home to Pensacola, Florida, as officials continue to investigate the death of one of their pilots during a weekend air show in South Carolina.
The Navy has identified the pilot killed in Saturday's crash as Lieutenant Commander Kevin Davis of Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Witnesses say while the Blue Angels were flying in formation, Davis' aircraft plunged into a neighborhood of small homes and trailers, sending up clouds of smoke. Officials say eight people on the ground suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Sunday at the air show at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, six jets performed the "missing man formation," the traditional salute for a lost military aviator.
