Deputy Involved Accident

A Dothan man and Houston County Sheriff's deputy took a trip to the hospital after an afternoon accident.

The wreck happened at the corner of Kinsey Road and Ross Clark Circle.

Investigators say the deputy was escorting a funeral procession southbound on Kinsey Road, when a man slammed into her patrol car.

Both were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Sgt. Tim Ward says, "Everyone always needs to be attendant to what's going on around them, not just directly in front of them. They need to be looking at intersections, even if they have a green light such as this, they need to be aware of what's going on around the side streets just in case some kind of emergency vehicle is having to come through the intersection."

No word yet on what kind of injuries the man and the deputy sustained.

Authorities say so far, no charges have been filed.

I see so many people talking on the cell phone and not paying attention. I was also thinking that the person might have been talking on the cell phone

I was traveling east on hiway 84 the other afternoon. Going west was a couny school bus stopping and letting off students. I stop which I thought we suppose too. Several cars stop with me. Then without notice a county deputy went around us without stoping for the school bus. Behind him was another car who also didn't stop. The deputy went up a little ways and then turn around going back to Dothan. Don't they suppose to stop for School buses also? What a wonderful example they give to us.

I would not be surprised if the person who hit the deputy was talking on a cell phone instead of paying attention to the road!
