Drag Racing Takes Two Lives

Police say an apparent drag race ended in a fiery car crash in Dothan Wednesday night claiming the lives of two people.

It happened on South Oates street just after 10:30 pm, when the driver of one of the cars lost control.

The car knocked down a utility pole and smashed into a street sign before bursting into flames.

Both people inside the car were killed.

No names have been released.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd says dental records will be used to identify one of the victims.

The driver of the other vehicle did not stop when the wreck happened.

Witnesses gave police a vague description of a red car and the search for it and the driver continues.

A tragic event that could have been avoided. Even if the person in the red car comes forward its not going to bring back the two young men that died. That is a bad curve in the road even if you are going the speed limit.

Not enough Police to be everywhere. 22 year olds should be mature enogh to know better. As far as the red car he/she is a coward and probably guilty of causing it.

I think it would be a good idea to display this car either on 231 South or somewhere it can be seen to hopefully prevent anyone else from doing something this detrimental. Innocent people could have been easily killed in this insanity.

The boys in the red car should have stopped and checked on the other two boys, because it could of been them who recked. Yeah were where the police at??? Trying to pull over other people who really not doing anything wrong.

I believe the remains of the burnt vehicles should be displayed for one week at each of the high schools throughout the wiregrass as a daily reminder to the teenagers of what happens when they are wreckless, careless and irresponsible. There is no turning back with death. You are gone forever. Your mistakes live forever.

The driver of that red car should feel bad for just leaving those people there.

There were no policemen in the area at the time??? Seems like there would have been some out patrolling.
