SARCOA Ground Breaking

A building used to help Wiregrass senior citizens get the best services available is expanding.

The Southern Alabama Regional Council on aging held a groundbreaking Monday for a new facility on Brannon Stand Road.

The building will be 18,000 square feet and sit on four-acres.

SARCOA reps say the Wiregrass Senior Resource Center will be an added bonus for seniors and the new facility will have more parking.

SARCOA Director Robert Crowder says, “Our current location where we're located, there's no parking or access to the building. Seniors can't get in, we actually don't allow our employees to park there 2 days a week, they have to park at an additional site. So this will give more access for our seniors.”

Construction on the building will be completed in one year.

Houston County leaders hope to have the old site serve as the VA clinic.
