Governor Bob Riley has honored the Dothan Fire Department for their efforts during the Enterprise tornado.
The award was given to the fire department during Tuesday’s city commission meeting.
The response was due to the Alabama Mutual Aid System.
The system calls for emergency personnel to respond to an area after a disaster.
Firefighters and EMS helped by providing the hazardous materiel truck, heavy rescue truck, and communications.
“With the most resources we have, we will be limited and any time we could have to call on our neighbors to assist us as well, we were very fortunate we were able to go and assist Enterprise,” said Chief Larry Williams of Dothan Fire Dept.
According to Houston County EMA Director Clark Matthews, Alabama is the first state to have such a program in place.
