WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) - An Elmore County school teacher is hospitalized with a gunshot to the back.

A sheriff's official said the shooter was her husband who died after turning the weapon on himself.

Chief Deputy Ricky Lowery said an apparent argument led 33-year-old Christopher Russell to shoot 36-year-old Daphne Russell Tuesday night at the couple's home in the Redland community.

The attempted murder/suicide happened around 8:30 pm.

Daphne Russell, a teacher at Wetumpka Junior High School, is listed in serious condition at a Montgomery hospital.
