An early morning fire at the Coffee County Jail forced the evacuation of a dozen female inmates.
Enterprise firefighters and New Brockton volunteer responders responded to the scene.
One of the female inmates reportedly set a mattress on fire causing the facility to fill with smoke.
Officials say the fire was quickly put out and no one was injured.
Sheriff Dave Sutton says the culprit will be held accountable and this type of disobedience will not be tolerated under his watch.
"The county and city fire departments and police departments, we get it, where the affected inmates were moved. Everyone is moved back in except for the few inmates. It’s being aired out for their breathing benefit," said Sheriff Sutton.
Sheriff Sutton believes the inmate who caused the fire is awaiting transfer to a state prison and she'll now most likely face an additional charge of arson.
