Former Florida Governor Lawton Chiles' son, "Bud", is continuing to follow in his dad's footsteps, raising support and awareness for the state's children.
"Bud" Chiles made two stops in Jackson County Wednesday, visiting Golson and Sneads Elementary Schools as well as the county's mobile dental health clinic.
He spent time with children and educators discussing the importance of volunteering time and resources into the local school systems.
Bud Chiles is reinventing his dad's project, walking 600 miles or a million steps to draw attention to the issue of children's healthcare and education.
"We want Florida to be #1 for children again, not 49th or 48th. We've got a million kids uninsured. We've got one of the worst dropout rates in the country, a lot of that is related to teen crime so we're spending money in the wrong way. We're spending it locking kids up instead of graduating them,” says Lawton “Bud” Chiles.
