BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Nine more Alabama counties have been added to the fire alert that began last week.
The Alabama State Forester placed Bullock, Butler, Covington, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery and Russell counties
on fire alert status Saturday morning.
Authorities say they've extended the alert because of extremely dry weather conditions and the high potential for wildfire in those areas.
Already under a fire alert were Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Escambia, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Mobile, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Washington and Winston counties.
They went under the initial fire alert that was issued on Wednesday.
Burn permits are restricted in areas under a fire alert.
