Alabama state troopers say at least eight people died in weekend traffic accidents across the state. The fatalities include two separate wrecks in Tallapoosa County on Saturday.
Troopers said the first accident on Alabama Highway 49, about a mile south of Dadeville. 57-year-old Barbara Defoe of Louisiana was killed when the vehicle she was driving ran off the road and overturned.
Another mishap in Tallapoosa County claimed the life of a pedestrian. Troopers said 27-year-old Christopher Verson of Jackson Gap was walking on County Road 34 when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle.
A 90-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash Saturday in Monroe County. Troopers said Willie C. Sanders of Beatrice died in the accident at about 9:40 am on Alabama 21, just south of Beatrice.
Other fatal accidents were reported in Baldwin (2), DeKalb, Lee and Walker counties.
