Enterprise, AL- The “City of Progress” is looking to make progress on it’s downtown area. For the next 90 days Enterprise city workers will make changes to Main Street around the boil weevil monument

“It’s going to be beautiful,” Said Brooke Denney representing the City “they’re going to put new pavers down on the sidewalk and we’re going to have improved lighting with hanging baskets….it’s going to look very very nice.”:”

If the proposed changes to Main Street sound familiar, that’s because they’re the same changes that have been made to College Street with success.

The Alabama department of transportation is picking up more than its share of the bill for this project, thanks to a competitive grant request written by Enterprise’s Tara Emmett.

“It’s over half a million dollars” Said Emmett “ an 80 percent 20 percent grant That allowed the city to stretch it’s dollars, there’s a lot of money going into this project and we’re really exited about it”

Carolyne Davis who works at Lolita’s flowers and gifts on Main sees the benefits in the look to change the lighting.

“The traffic slows down a bit, and it’s a little bit scary when you have to go out and it starts getting dark”

But across the street at Special Accents owner Molly Laprad is all for the changes, but she says the timing may be bad for business.

“From October to January is my busiest time, which is true for all retail,” Said Laprad “ and with them tearing up the sidewalks it’s going to make it a little more difficult for customers to come in the store. ”

“Holiday time is happening right now and it’s a big time for our merchants a lot of their income is during this season” Said Denney” so in the city we’re working with contractors to make sure that they don’t have any disruptions”

Construction is set to be complete in 90 days.
