Con Artists Arrested

arrest

Two long sought after Wiregrass con artists have been arrested in North Carolina.

The husband and wife fugitives have left a trail of bogus checks and rip-off schemes across several southern states.

Over the weekend, police arrested Donald and Amy Lashley at an apartment in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The Geneva couple was reportedly transporting stolen guns inside a vehicle they allegedly stole in Arkansas.

Geneva Police Captain Tony Clemmons has been the lead investigator in the case.

In May 2001, the Lashleys left a trail of bad debt totaling more than $50,000 in the Wiregrass.

Clemmons said since fleeing their hometown, authorities in Dumas, Texas, Chattanooga, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas have been looking for the couple.

Geneva Police Chief Frankie Lindsey will seek the Lashleys' extradition back to Alabama. At this time, the couple remains in a Wilmington, North Carolina jail.
