ALFA Insurance warns people to beware of scam

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - ALFA Insurance officials are asking people to beware of a small scam that

Spokesman Dave Rickey said four people in Birmingham, Dothan, Opp and Jackson have received calls from scammers who identify themselves as ALFA representatives.

Rickey said the impostors tell policy holders that their policies have been canceled and ask for their birth dates and social security numbers.

None of the four people gave out that information. Rickey said they did the right thing and called their insurance agents instead.

He said customers whose policies are canceled for any reason receive official notification by mail and should contact their local ALFA offices if they have any questions.
