Second Rabies Case Confirmed

Public health officials have confirmed Houston County’s second case of rabies for 2007.

A rabid raccoon was killed in the area of Scott Nurdery Road and Campbellton Highway.

The animal was killed near a dog pen, but the pets have current rabies vaccinations and there were no known human exposures to the deadly disease.

All dogs and cats in Alabama must be vaccinated by law.

Health officials are warning folks to avoid wild animals and stray pets just to be safe.

Houston County recorded 22 cases of rabies last year.
