DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - An Ashford woman was sentenced to five years
in prison after she pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide for killing a Dothan city worker in February of last year.
At a hearing yesterday, a judge imposed the sentence on 43-year-old Tammy Melinda Devane.
Authorities said a car driven by Devane crashed into a traffic engineering truck that had stopped to perform maintenance on a roadside sign.
Devane was originally charged with manslaughter in the death of 57-year-old Johnny White.
Authorities said while Devane was out on bond, she was arrested in June 2004 for driving under the influence. She also pleaded guilty to the DUI offense as part of a plea deal.
