Sunday kicked off a week of mourning as one of the nine tornado victims who was killed in Enterprise was laid to rest.

Eighty-three-year-old Edna Strickland is described by friends and family as a kind woman who loved the Lord.

Many gathered in her honor at the Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise Sunday afternoon to celebrate her life and Christian walk.

"She believed what god has taught us and does teach us. She had written down a scripture, from what I understand, and was in the process as the tornado approached, was reading the Bible," said Sorrells Funeral Home’s owner, Terry Sorrells.

Strickland was killed at her home by the same tornado that ripped through Enterprise High School last Thursday. Funeral home presiders say there strong support from not only her family and friends, but many within the community.

"We had a gathering of some 200 plus to attend the funeral service. There was a number of people that come for the visit to show their support prior to the actual service itself, and I think it's just a tremendous, tremendous outpouring of love, not only from the friends of her family, but from her church family as well," said Sorrells.

Officials expect more people to continue supporting those fallen to the storm, with increasing numbers at student funerals.

Strickland was buried at Meadowlawn Cemetery shortly after 4 o'clock this afternoon.
