Martha Stewart's lawyers will get their first shot at the state's star witness today.
They are set to cross-examine former brokerage assistant Douglas
Faneui, who has testified he was ordered to pass Stewart a tip. He told jurors last week Stewart told him to sell her shares in ImClone Systems.
Even if jurors buy the story, it doesn't prove Stewart committed the crime she's accused of: lying to investigators looking into the well-timed sale.
Faneuil has already faced more than a day of questioning from his former boss's attorneys. He claims his old boss Peter Bacanovic pressured him into initially lying to investigators. Faneuil changed his story in June 2002 and reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.
